The Barnet Muslim Forum is pleased to have hosted the Ramadan Iftaar 2010 with esteemed friends and colleagues.

The dinner was started by an introduction by the Chair of the Barnet Muslim Forum, Fahad Mohamed who thanked all for coming on this auspicious occasion. Deputy Mayor Cllr Lisa Rutter then spoke briefly about the qualities of sharing and strengthening of ties which an occasion like this facilitates. The Leader of Barnet Council, Cllr. Lynne Hillan spoke next, thanking the Forum for hosting such a terrific event with many friends. The Founder and Patron of the Barnet Muslim Forum, Cllr. Zakia Zubairi, spoke last, detailing the history of the BMF and how it has achieved success in such a short space of time.

Amongst the many guests attending were Barnet Chief Executive Nick Walkley, Chief Superintendent Neil Basu, Cllr. Jack Cohen, Cllr. Alison Moore and Cllr. Tambourides. The Faith communities were also represented. Nurul Alam from Islamic Association of North London, Abdul Gafaar Herwitker from Hendon Mosque, Mohammed Gulfam from Islamic Centre Edgware and Adil Farooqi from Al-Farooqia foundation were present amongst a host of other organisations that work within the voluntary sector.

Ramadan Greetings

The Islamic month of Ramadan, which is now upon us, is a time of self reflection and spiritual development, and a chance to meet with friends and associates in order to strengthen ties.

The Barnet Muslim Forum, on behalf of the Muslim Community in Barnet, would like to wish all friends well and hopes to meet them at our annual Iftar Dinner.

We pray that our fast and prayers are accepted in this auspicious month of God.

Overseas voters

With the opinion polls tightening, the estimated 2.5 million Britons living abroad may well swing the result of the forthcoming General Election. If you have friends and family living abroad now is the time to get them to register to vote – overseas registrations need to be submitted by 1 April 2010 to allow enough time for post, etc. ahead of the election. So please pass this message on straight way.

Every British citizen who has been registered to vote in the UK within the last 15 years is eligible to vote in UK Parliamentary
(general) elections and European Parliamentary elections in the UK.

If you were too young to register when you left the UK, you can still register as an overseas voter so long as your parent or guardian was registered to vote in the UK and you left the UK within the last 15 years.

We have compiled a summary of the times for the Eid Salat in Barnet and surrounding areas. We have included contact numbers should you wish to communicate with the centres directly.

By the Grace and Mercy of Allah, it would appear that the whole of the North West of London is united in celebrating together on the same day.

If there are any other places of congregational Salat that you are aware about which have not been listed, please contact us and let us know so that we may add them.

Ramadan Iftaar 2009

The Barnet Muslim Forum would like to thank everyone who attended the Ramadan Iftaar.
The Event was opened by the Chair of the Barnet Muslim Forum who spoke briefly about Ramadan and its significance, before calling upon the Mayor, Cllr. Coleman to say a few words. The Mayors speech was very warmly received, as he addressed the issue of intolerance and fascism and how Barnet will not tolerate divisions in the community. Short speeches were also made by Dr P A Sufi, the President of Finchley Mosque, and Mushtaq Rehman, President of Hendon Mosque, before dinner.

Next Barnet Muslim Forum Meeting

This AGM will be bringing together Muslim Organisations in Barnet and inviting special guests to create a strong social network.
The meeting would culminate in the election of the a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.

We look forward to meeting you and it would be helpful if you could let us know beforehand if you are able to attend, or if you are delegating the attendence to someone else in your organisation..
If you would like to nominate individuals as office-bearers, contact us as soon as possible. It is essential that we have people who are willing to work to develop this initiative.
